Don’t let the “No Soliciting” signs scare you off. They mean nothing. Worst case scenario, the business will tell you to leave. We have noticed that relationship selling is a great way to earn a new customer. You are selling a service that the customer needs. Tell them about yourself and ask them about what they do. Business’ love to talk about themselves so let that help generate a conversation. You can say something like, “how’s business going?” The personal conversation will make them feel comfortable with you. Tell them what you have to offer. Every 2 week service or perhaps a once a month service? Of course, you can give them a free quote on the spot. Ask if there is a manager around that makes these types of decisions. If they say they already have a window cleaner, ask them if they are happy with them, Price? Reliable? Workmanship? Surprisingly, sometimes they say they streak the windows or don’t come around much. This is your opportunity to explain how reliable you are and how you would do a better job. Maybe you can beat their price. Ask them what they are paying. If they don’t want to make a decision on the spot or need to speak with someone else, drop them a flyer with your name and phone number. If you don’t hear any thing with in a few days, go back in and ask them if they had a chance to think about it. Sometimes a second visit proves that you are serious and really interested in earning their business.
Have patience when trying to get new business. It feels degrading to be turned down time and time again. You may try 100 places before 1 says yes. Don’t give up; attaining lots of customers will not happen over night.
